Cataract Consultation

Cataracts cause diminished vision and can begin to interfere with daily life. In the mild stages, brighter lights, glasses, or a magnifying glass may help for clearer vision as well as the use of anti-glare sunglasses when outside. However, as cataracts get bigger and keep developing, vision becomes very impaired.

A cataract is a condition where the lens of the eye is clouded over. Older adults commonly develop cataracts and over half have a cataract or have had surgery for them by age 80.

Cataracts are not contagious and cannot spread from eye to eye, although they can occur in one or both eyes. Some patients make an appointment to have an eye examination due to worsening vision before they discover they have cataracts.

Cataracts can be an inherited genetic disorder, although diabetes, past eye surgeries, long-term use of steroids, eye injury, or simple aging can also cause them.

The experts at Eye Care Associates of Bethany in Bethany, Oklahoma, offer cataract consultation and treatment. We offer experienced cataract examinations and surgical treatment if needed.

After confirmation of a cataract (or cataracts), we will discuss possible treatments or surgical interventions available, explaining all the pros and cons of each.
